Because of record rainfall on May 14, 2014 in Balkans began severe flooding. The most damage the disaster struck Serbia, and Bosnia and Herzegovina. The result died at least 49 people, hundreds of thousands of people were forced to leave their homes.

In connection with the tragedy the Council of Federation of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation adopted an appeal to the bodies of state power of subjects of the Russian Federation on rendering assistance to the Republic of Serbia, suffered from flood in May 2014.
