Konstantinov attended the opening of the international conference "Russian language in a multicultural world"

Chairman of the Supreme Council of autonomy Vladimir Konstantinov attended the opening of the V international conference "Russian language in a multicultural world" in the framework of the fifth international festival "The Great Russian Word" in Yalta.

It was attended by the honorary president of the Festival, the president of the International Association of Teachers of Russian language and literature, full Academic of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Ph.D., professor Ludmila Verbitskaya, scientists, linguists, educators, linguists, literary scholars, public figures from the regions of Russia and Ukraine.

Welcoming the participants Konstantinov said: “For us, people of different cultures and traditions, the Russian language is not only the language of international communication, but also the keeper of general historical memory of peoples. And practically every citizen of Ukraine knows two languages; the Russian culture and language is inherent property.”

Ukraine has a paradoxical situation: the tolerance of the Ukrainian people to the Russian language and intolerance of some politicians and representatives of the so-called humanitarian intelligentsia to Russian culture. The politicization of the situation prevents the search for a civilized and acceptable to all compromise solutions to language problems

Crimea has always been a multicultural region. The historical diversity and mutual enrichment of cultures is a distinctive feature of the Crimean peninsula.

"I am confident that today's conference will contribute to strengthening the position of the Russian language", - concluded the speaker.

Chairman of the Supreme Council of autonomy wished the participants of the conference dialogue to have interesting dialogue and fruitful discussions.
