Clarification of the Legal Department of the Secretariat of the Supreme Council of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea

On March 6, 2014 the number of mass media published the statement of the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, the acting President of Ukraine Aleksandr Turchynov to the people in connection with the situation in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea.

Since the relevant decree of the acting President of Ukraine to date in the prescribed manner has not been published, but the constitutional representation regarding the constitutionality of the Decree of the Supreme Council of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea, dated 6 March 2014 “On holding of all Crimean referendum” to the constitutional Court of Ukraine is not made, the statements of the acting President of Ukraine Aleksandr Turchinov are negligible and shall not entail legal consequences.
